The Côte de Nuits is known for world-class Pinot Noir wines – it’s a cornucopia of superb reds (and a very few great whites), a jewel in the Burgundian crown.  There is also a separate region, known as ‘Hautes-Côtes de Nuits’, which produces both red and white wines from slopes a little higher up (as the name suggests), above the escarpment of the Côte de Nuits. 95% of the wines from this region are red, but there are exceptional white wines too. And of course, the Hautes Cotes whites are stunning. Reasonably priced, floral and rich, fresh and open.

REDS
Domaine Les Astrelles Hautes Côtes-de-Nuits 'Les Martennes' 2022
Displays a beautiful ruby red color, clear and inviting, hinting at its vibrant character and youth. The nose is very fruity, dominated by enticing aromas of red fruits such as raspberries, cherries, and strawberries. These primary fruit notes are complemented by delicate spicy undertones, adding complexity and depth to the bouquet. "Les Martennes" Rouge is full-bodied, showcasing an imposing structure with well-integrated, silky tannins. The red fruit flavors carry through from the nose, providing a juicy and lively profile, balanced by subtle spice and a touch of earthiness from the terroir. The wine's complexity is evident in its harmonious blend of fruit, spice, and tannin, creating a balanced and satisfying experience. "Les Martennes" is a compelling expression of Pinot Noir from the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits. Its rich fruit character, combined with its full-bodied structure and silky tannins, make it a versatile wine suitable for both immediate enjoyment and further aging. Julien Cruchandeau Hautes Cotes de Nuits 'Les Cabottes' 2022
Tank raised. 12.5% alcohol. Vineyard in transition: half of it is 60 years old; the other half a new plantation 6 years old. The two parts are fermented separately then assembled in to one cuvee. Lovely phenolic maturity, so he did a slow cold maceration. The result is enormous fruit and a wine accessible now. Beautiful Pinot Noir!

WHITES
Domaine Jean Féry Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune 'La Petite Heulée 2021
Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune " La Petite Heulée " shows a pale yellow robe that glistens with silver. The nose is citric, with ripe white-fleshed pear. The toastiness of the oak comes next. And then a note of struck-match. The mouth is incisive, crystalline, fresh, with notes of ripe citrus, ending with a long generous finish. This Hautes Cotes de Beaune is vinified in French oak barrels with a part in ceramic egg-shaped vats. The maturation continues in these different containers until 12 months. At the end of the maturation, a light lenticular filtration is carried out before bottling.

Very low yields for the appellation (30hl/ha). Raised in 50% steel tank and 50% wood (with 10% new oak in the mix). Orange flower and honey, rich but fresh and open. Long pleasant floral finish.
