Domaine de Cromey
This is the Domaine de Cromey – Elden Selections' Home in the Heart of Burgundy.
For over 25 years we've been bringing you the hidden gems of small-production Burgundy. We've recently replanted the historic Domaine de Cromey vineyard. It's seven acres of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that's called Clos de Chateau.

Cromey sits among the vines in a peaceful vale to the south of Beaune.
Since the late 1500's, the locals have called it the ‘chateau’, and there were indeed Lords of Cromey.
But the property was always more a baronial farm than a residence. It was, in fact, the winery for these local lords, as the surrounding vineyards, vast vaulted cellars and imposing wine press attest.
A LUXURY MANOR HOUSE
The Domaine de Cromey has been recently transformed into a luxury manor house complex dedicated to the enjoyment of the culinary traditions and the natural beauty of Burgundy.
With six luxurious en-suite rooms in separate buildings set around a courtyard within the acres of a walled-in park, Cromey offers modern comfort and quiet sophistication in a setting from another era.
The heated pool sits below the main terrace with a magnificent view across the park and down through the valley. There are four furnished terraces around the main manor house, so there is sun or shade at any time of day.
THE DINING HALL & SALON
The Dining Hall is a magnificent room laid out around an original 18th century wine press, with an open fire, flag-stone floor, massive oak beams, a lounge area and bar, and a monumental staircase that floats through the space above.
The Salon has parquet floors and oak-beamed ‘plafond a la française’. An open fire with the original fire-back dating from 1716 is the focal point of the room, and a restored Pleyel baby grand is the center of attention.
CROMEY'S KITCHEN
The open-plan kitchen is the center of household activity in every sense. Sliding workshop doors give the room versatility, making it an ideal teaching kitchen, but transforming it easily to a professional work space.
THE CELLARS
There are three cellars at Cromey. The main cellar, with its vaulted ceiling is about 150' long and is used primarily for wine tastings and events. The other cellars house Cromey's wines for guests.
Cellars have survived centuries as an important part of daily life in Burgundy. Their disposition enables taking advantage of and controlling temperatures ideal for storing wine and other foods.
THE PARK
The walled in park below the manor house is an arboretum set in five acres, with specimen trees dating back through the history of the property. The majestic cedar that dominates the lower park and is visible from miles around is said to date to 1802, planted to commemorate the crowning of Napoleon. Great gardens transcend generations. We tend them for posterity. The Park at Cromey is a living history. Numerous century trees attest to the love of this unsullied spot that previous owners felt. Our goal is to preserve this patrimony, improve its presentation and leave something of ourselves here for the future.
THE GARDENS
If trees and shrubbery are the framework of a garden, perennial beds and annual plantations are its decoration. Each season has its textures and colors. A well conceived garden derives its character from these elemental choices. At Cromey, we look to indigenous species and natural habitats as we strive for a seamless transition between the garden and nature beyond.
THE MEADOW
Natural springs stream down from the vineyards, cutting through the adjacent meadow and cascading into the lower reaches of the park, creating a natural habitat for wildlife and biodiversity for birds. In Spring and Autumn, the grasslands of the meadow are a pasture for horses from the village.
THE POTAGER
‘Potage’ is French for ‘soup’. Welcome to the soup garden, the vegetable patch. For a cook, there is no greater pleasure than an organically grown vegetable, straight from the earth, warm from the sun. Good food is at the heart of the Cromey ethic, so the vegetable garden is in constant expansion. Organic soils and compost, cover crops and raised beds, no chemical fertilizers or pesticides, no compromise.
THE ORCHARD
In 2015, we planted a new orchard in the upper reaches of the vineyard. But not just any orchard. The Cromey plantation is called a ‘conservation’ orchard, made up of carefully chosen old varieties that are not found commercially. Twenty-two different fruits and nuts, coming to maturity at different times in the growing season.
THE CROMEY TEAM
Meet Dennis, Ellie, Stephen, Lilly and Anne who run the Domaine along with their staff. You can learn more about them here. When they are not cooking and running tours for guests they are tasting, buying and curating wine for our wine shop burgundywine.com and you can learn more about that here.
THE VINEYARD
Cromey has seven acres of new vineyard plantation 'Clos de Chateau' with its first harvest in 2022, reviving the historical vineyard and traditions of the property.
