A Chablis that presents the creamier side of white Burgundy along with complex aromatics. Pale-intensity lemon in color, this wine has a medium-plus-intensity nose of green apple, hay, quince, bread dough, yogurt, clove, walnut and lemon citrus.

French Wine Region Bourgogne Should No Longer Be Translated To ‘Burgundy’ – Bourgogne stands alone as France’s only wine region with a name translated into different languages. Everyone calls the Loire Valley the Loire Valley, for example. Bordeaux is Bordeaux. But Bourgogne is commonly referred to as “Burgundy” in English — there’s also “Burgund” in German and “Borgogna” in Italian.

Domaine de Cromey is a historic seventeenth century winemaking estate set in the heart of Burgundy, has announced the launch of its new website, providing visitors with an insider’s view of this storied and opulent Manoir.

Surrounded by vineyards, Domaine de Cromey, a converted farmhouse in the heart of Burgundy, is the ideal base for a culinary break. A stay at this luxury manor house, owned by couple Dennis and Ellie, includes meals cooked by chef Ellie, accompanied by a fabulous range of Burgundian wines.

Glass in hand on the softly lit terrace, listening to a distant owl hooting as the sun sets red behind rolling hills, I begin to understand why my hosts abandoned the American dream three decades ago to create a life for themselves in this rural French idyll. I am well and truly under a Burgundian spell.

First off, don’t call it a wine club, because Elden Selections is not a wine club – it’s a Burgundy-only wine portal. This means you don’t get random bottles of wine sent to your home each month. You only get the Burgundy gems you decide you want and when you want from the 30 under-the-radar, small-production wine producers in Burgundy who currently offer around 250 wines for you to choose from through Elden Selections.

They fell in love with food, each other, and France—in roughly that order—and now Dennis Sherman and Ellie Garvin are the king and queen of Burgundy. At least they are to the Americans they entertain at their château, Domaine de Cromey, as they take visitors on an insider’s tour through some of the most prized and exquisite vineyards in France.

Life doesn’t usually turn out as planned — sometimes it ends up way better! I love a good story about people who risk comfortable lives to put themselves out there and soak up what the world has to offer beyond their everyday comfort zone.

When the holidays roll around, no one wants to seem impersonal or cheap. Entertaining, gifting, dressing, dining—everything gets a special flair this time of year and that’s the fun of it. But, let’s be honest, an element of ease is important too.

I recently taught a wine class for the IWAGY wine club in Poughkeepsie, NY titled, “Affordable Southern Burgundy: Great Wines that Won’t Break the Bank.” While the presentation was primarily designed to introduce the audience to the lesser-known Burgundian districts of the Macon and the Cote Chalonnaise, they were eager to know about affordability.

I love shopping locally for wine, but there are times when I buy online for something not available close by. I recently discovered Elden Selections, a Burgundy-only online wine store. Thankfully, there are options for finding wines from the world’s greatest wine region.

Thanks to an opportunity (complimentary for review purposes) to order six wines from Elden Selections, a Burgundy-only online wine store, I’m now a fan. Who knew that so many premium wines from one of my favorite regions can be purchased with a few clicks and delivered to my front door?

Elden Wine Selections is a platform that uncovers Burgundy and makes it simple! Elden provides U.S. wine lovers with D2C access to hidden Bugundy gems, wines from less well-known appellations and from great producers.

Next, we have an interesting option for those with larger bank accounts who are looking to indulge their favorite person’s passion for higher-end Chardonnay and Pinot Noir: Elden Selections, an online wine shop dedicated solely to small-ish production Burgundy.

I spend a lot of time on this website focused on what to buy. But when you’re on the hunt for great wines at bargain prices, it’s equally important to know where to shop for wine as well. Finding a wine shop with knowledgeable staff, who have your best interests in mind and who will steer you toward some great deals, is priceless.

Burgundy (a.k.a. “Bourgogne”) is one on the world’s premier wine regions. Dominated by two of the world’s great grape varieties – Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, it is a region steeped in tradition. But the combination of tradition, terroir (there are 1,200+ climats, and innumerable lieux-dits) and over 3,000 wine producing domaines make the region seem as complex as its best wines.

Ah, Burgundy. I knew we would get there one of these days. This is a bottle from Elden Selections, which is a site that brings together some smaller producers from throughout the region and makes the wines available to pick and choose and create your own case of quality Burgundian wines.

Mouthwatering Chablis, literally, the acidity is killer on this. On the nose, the aromas are toasty and spicy with vanilla and baking spices taking over, but the palate paints a different picture. Still spicy but with more of that green apple, lemon drop, and stone fruit flavor making an appearance, along with a creamy texture.

When an email popped up in my inbox asking if I’d be interested in receiving some samples of quality Burgundy wines from an online wine store based in Burgundy, my curiosity was piqued. Of course, I said yes!

I happened upon this wine when I discovered the wine shop, Elden Sélections, which specializes in small, family-owned Burgundy estates. Dauvissat is a famous name in Chablis, and Elden Sélections is a must stop for any Burgundy lover.

Rarely will I blog about an online wine club or store. It has to be special, or I would tell you to just go to Wine-Searcher, where I am US Editor, and which puts almost all the nation's wine stores at your fingertips. I think Elden Selections is something special. Based in Burgundy but run by Americans, Elden is an online-only wine shop that offers a relatively narrow but deep selection of Burgundies made by small producers.
