Many wine drinkers wonder about the effects that Terroir can have on a wine. Is it really that important? How much of an effect does it really have? For this month’s tasting Stephen will take three different wines from the same producer, the same commune but different vineyards, and show you how the terroir can impact the flavor profile of a wine.
Some of the questions we will be addressing...

* How we met this producer and what he saw in his wines
* The history of Jean-Baptiste Ponsot
* The village of Rully and Cote Chalonnaise
* The specific plots and the vinification method
* The character of each wine
* The 2019 vintage
* The structure of each wine
* The drinking window of these wines and how they will age
* Other Elden Selection wines where you could explore terroir with friends and family.

3 bottle set includes one of each, plus Ground Shipping included:

Jean-Baptiste Ponsot Rully ‘En Bas de Vauvry’ 2019
Stony-dry minerality, smokiness sublimated by a very elegant and creamy toasted aging. Great finesse and tension, a hallmark of Ponsot whites. All the complexity of the premier crus! Aged 12 months in barrels (one-third new oak) and 3 months of assembly in mass (15% of tank, 20% of new barrels and the rest in barrels of 1 to 4 wines).

Jean-Baptiste Ponsot Rully 1er Cru ‘Molesme’ White 2019
Excellent structure, verging on the side of an acidity that carries the minerality and floral notes uniformly across the length and breadth of the palate. Beautiful marriage between the fat of the wine and the mineral tension. Round, precise and gourmand. Aging 12 months in barrels (25% of new oak barrels) and 3 months of assembly in mass.

Jean-Baptiste Ponsot Rully 1er Cru ‘Montpalais’ 2019
Gun-flint smoky minerality drives this ripe, old-vine fruit and elegant white flower complexity to great lengths.  Extremely long finish, and the hallmark tension, even in old vine depth. Aging 12 months in barrels (20% of new oak barrels) and 3 months of assembly in mass.
