Regnaugot Maranges 1er Cru 'Clos des Loyeres' 2017

This much-awarded wine, from an appellation you have probably never heard of, is the standard-bearer for the Maranges. When we first arrived in Burgundy, neighboring Santenay was considered rustic and undrinkable. All that has changed. And now it’s the turn of Maranges to come into the fold. Producers like the Regnaudots have been making it happen for a decade now. This premier cru ‘Clos des Loyeres’ is black cherry in color and black cherry in flavor, which is considered typical of the vineyard. It’s a gutsy wine, full-bodied, round and balanced. There’s a touch of cocoa on that fruit that is persistent right through to the finish. A classy example of what Maranges can be. You have to try this.

Gabin and Felix Richoux Irancy 'Veaupessiot' 2012
This is Pinot Noir in a style all its own, with delicate cherry fruit and brooding minerality. This single vineyard 'Veaupessiot' sits on a point over looking the river valley with perfect exposition. Gabin and Felix Richoux holds back their wines until they feel they have developed enough.

Domaine Borgeot Bourgogne Rouge 2017
Domaine Borgeot Bourgogne Rouge is one wine that is always in our cellar. In fact, it's our 'house red'! This is one of the paradigms of what we call 'everyday drinking Burgundy'. Classic youthful Burgundy Pinot Noir with blackberries and strawberries and that earthiness that keeps you coming back. It is as we claim: you can drink Burgundy every day. This one should be in your cellar too. Pull it out, guilt free and often!

Domaine Jean Fery Bourgogne ‘Les Monatines’ Blanc 2017

Bourgogne Blanc is among the most adaptable and food-friendly wines in the world. It pairs with traditional white wine dishes like poultry, fish and shellfish, but it is amazingly good with seeming opposites like spicy dishes and oriental seasonings. We prefer it to red wine with some of the stronger cheeses. And of course, it is the aperitif wine of choice in Burgundy.  Pure deep fruit, rounded with just enough oak to make your mouth water. Floral and citric, but mouth-filling and long.

Jean-Jacques Girard Savigny les Beaune White 2017
Jean-Jacques Girard knows Savigny les Beaune. And while 85% of Savigny is red, there is a lovely strain of minerality that comes out of this valley. and with the village appellation Savigny les Beaune blanc, Jean Jaques shows us what is possible. The nose is like an apple orchard, fresh fruit and apple pie spices in the air. Rich, supple, pure, and then a bite of that pie! This one is ripe, fresh and shows a good deal of complexity.

Domaine Borgeot Bourgogne Blanc 'Clos de la Carbonade' 2018
This single-vineyard Bourgogne 'Clos de la Carbonade' is wholly owned by the Borgeots.  And the wine they make there is the greatest surprise on our list. It's a small parcel, located in the village of Bouzeron, the northernmost village of the Cote Chalonnaise. But don't be fooled by its modest pedigree: the 'Clos de la Carbonade' has something special about it. And year after year we see remarkable wines that far outshine appellations much grander than Bourgogne. The Borgeot's can't explain it...yet. But there is a geological study underway to see what makes this parcel tick.

Note: These wines are sourced from small producers, and so quantities are very limited. If ever we run out of a particular wine, we will substitute a wine of equal or greater value.
