JEAN-BAPTISTE PONSOT 2019 MIXED CASE
Every village in Burgundy has its locomotive, its driving force, it’s star producer. Some are famous and take center stage. Others are more reserved, discreet, working behind the scenes and leading by example. Jean-Baptiste Ponsot in Rully is perhaps the best example of the latter that we have ever met.
For years we looked longingly at Jean-Baptiste Ponsot's Rullys, dreaming of adding them to the Elden constellation.
We must be virtuous...at least when it comes to patience...Because here we are, presenting our second vintage of Ponsot white Rully that will simply amaze you. Stun you, even. It's what we call, here at Elden Selections, 'grown-ups' wine'!
These are wines from the best parcels in the appellation. Tiny yields. Miniscule quantities. Masterful winemaking. Controlled reduction. Raised 'en masse' for sublime tension. Elegance and finesse.
Includes 4 bottles of each WHITE plus Ground Shipping Included:
Rully ‘En Bas de Vauvry’ 2019
Stony-dry minerality, smokiness sublimated by a very elegant and creamy toasted aging. Great finesse and tension, a hallmark of Ponsot whites. All the complexity of the premier crus! Aged 12 months in barrels (one-third new oak) and 3 months of assembly in mass (15% of tank, 20% of new barrels and the rest in barrels of 1 to 4 wines).
Rully 1er Cru ‘Molesme’ White 2019
Excellent structure, verging on the side of an acidity that carries the minerality and floral notes uniformly across the length and breadth of the palate. Beautiful marriage between the fat of the wine and the mineral tension. Round, precise and gourmand. Aging 12 months in barrels (25% of new oak barrels) and 3 months of assembly in mass.
Rully 1er Cru ‘Montpalais’ 2019
Gun-flint smoky minerality drives this ripe, old-vine fruit and elegant white flower complexity to great lengths. Extremely long finish, and the hallmark tension, even in old vine depth. Aging 12 months in barrels (20% of new oak barrels) and 3 months of assembly in mass.
