Domaine Pierre Thibert Cote de Nuit Villages 2017
Alive, alert with a tension that makes you makes you almost overlook the pretty black fruit. There's mineral here too, keeping the whole thing focused. There's a voluptuous density of fruit lurking in this young frame. Balanced and again, way above its appellation.
Domaine Pierre Thibert Nuits St. Georges 2017
Black fruits layered on a complex background of coffee and spice, with fine tannins already melting in. Structured but still fluid, a great texture. Complete through the mid-palate with a long finish on cherry fruit and structure.
Domaine Thierry Mortet Bourgogne Rouge 'Les Charmes de Daix' 2018
Thierry Mortet produces about 6000 bottles a year of Bourgogne Rouge from six different parcels making up about 2.5 acres. This means there is great diversity in the strains of Pinot and the age of the vines, producing a wine with contour. Deep, dense and brilliant, its smoky spice opens to fresh black cherry sweet fruit with a charcoal edge. Delicious and luscious.
Domaine Thierry Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin 2017
If you thought the ‘assemblage’ of the Mortet Bourgogne Rouge brought lots of different Pinot Noir strains to the cellar, get this: this Gevrey-Chambertin village is made from grapes from 20 different parcels of vines in AOC Gevrey-Chambertin! It would be hard to find a more representative example of Gevrey village’s famous diversity. Pure and open, intense blackberry and black currant, a touch of licorice. You’ll want to try it now, but keep it a few years more and you’ll be rewarded.
Domaine Jean Fery Cote de Nuits Villages 2017
It is as accessible as it is amiable, honest and straightforward in taste. The red, which has the gleaming crimson highlights of the Pinot grape, veers sometimes towards an intense garnet hue or, when young, a bright cherry. Its aromas run a classic spectrum through cherry, gooseberry and blackcurrant to notes of underbrush, mushroom and spices (cinnamon). This is a big-hearted wine, powerful in the mouth, full and meaty, and its tannins (more conspicuously present in the younger wines) are well smoothed-down. Ruby red with fresh fruit cherry and black currant dominant. Spicy, with good structure and fine tannins. An elegant wine drinking way above its appellation.
Domaine Jean Fery Morey St Denis 2018
Morey St Denis is an epicenter. With five Grand Cru and twenty 1er Cru parcels, this is some of the prime real estate in Burgundy. There is hardly an iffy vineyard in the village. And these are some of the most refined wines of the Cotes de Nuits. This village AOC from Domaine Jean Fery has black fruits that impose themselves, sweet and round, in a structure that is typical Morey minerality, with a freshness bred of fine tannins and good balance.
