REDS
Domaine De Suremain Monthelie 1er cru 'Le Clou des Chenes' 2018
Of the two De Suremain Monthelie 1er Cru 2015, this ‘Clou des Chenes’ would be the one to lay down. You immediately sense the structure: the vanilla and black pepper; the tender tannins, integrated but present. And then you get the fruit, frank, foursquare and generous. You can go for the immediate pleasure, but better to wait a few years to get the full show.

Domaine Michel Arcelain Pommard 'Noizons' 2010
Intense aromas of blackberry, black currant, cherries and licorice. A fist in a velvet glove, fine but dense; more structured than you sense at first. Warm and round and long.

Domaine Borgeot Santenay Vieilles Vignes 2021
Year in, year out, this Borgeot Santenay 'Vieilles Vignes' (which translates as ‘Old Vines’ is one of our favorites. This term holds no official age requirement however in this case the vines were actually planted by Pascals grandfather!! We've been drinking this wine consistently since we first met Pascal Borgeot back in 1989. The first Borgeot wine we tasted was his Santenay VV in the 1985 vintage. It was beautiful even in its youth, and we drank it lustily. Have done ever since. Pascal surprised us a few years back with a secret stash of the 1985, and we re-lived our youth in a glass. This is our image of Pinot Noir from the Cotes de Beaune. It ranks as one of the best deals in Red Burgundy on this site...which explains why it is always among the first to sell out.

WHITES
Domaine Gilles Bouton Saint Aubin 1er Cru 'En Remilly' 2021
‘En Remilly’ is arguably the best of the Saint Aubin premier cru vineyards. It falls from a steep, south-facing hillside which is an extension of the Grand Cru ‘Le Montrachet’ as the slopes follow the valley. The soil make-up (if you can even call it soil!) is pretty much crushed gravel, making for one of the most mineral whites in the zone. Floral, flinty and citric, it’s one of the great discoveries in white Burgundy.

Capitain Gagnerot Ladoix 1er Cru 'Les Grechons et Foutrieres' 2022
The Capitain Ladoix 1er Cru Grechons is very much an insider's wine. It's sold almost exclusively in the region (or to those who know Capitain well). Year upon year we have tasted the new Grechons at the same time that we taste the latest Capitain Corton Charlemagne, often standing in the freezing cold when the barrels have been taken outside to cold-precipitate the tartaric acids. The number of times we have mistaken the Grechons for the Charlemagne cannot be just chance! There is a similarity in the minerality, with that Corton Mountain limestone smokiness unlain with honey and white flowers.

Domaine Borgeot Cremant de Bourgogne
Don’t call it Champagne. You’ll get us in trouble. But this Borgeot Cremant de Bourgogne is produced in the very same way as those much more expensive wines that we are allowed to call Champagne. A well-made Cremant is a joy. A wine you can pull out for any occasion. And a wine which is made on a more human scale than the millions upon millions of bottles produced by our neighbors to the north. And that’s reason enough to celebrate!
