Enjoy 1 bottle of each WHITE:
Jean-Baptiste Ponsot Rully 1er Cru ‘Molesme’ White 2021
Excellent structure, verging on the side of an acidity that carries the minerality and floral notes uniformly across the length and breadth of the palate. Beautiful marriage between the fat of the wine and the mineral tension. Round, precise and gourmand. Aging 12 months in barrels (25% of new oak barrels) and 3 months of assembly in mass.
Domaine Gilles Bouton Saint Aubin 1er Cru 'En Remilly' 2022
‘En Remilly’ is arguably the best of the Saint Aubin premier cru vineyards. It falls from a steep, south-facing hillside which is an extension of the Grand Cru ‘Le Montrachet’ as the slopes follow the valley. The soil make-up (if you can even call it soil!) is pretty much crushed gravel, making for one of the most mineral whites in the zone. Floral, flinty and citric, it’s one of the great discoveries in white Burgundy.
Domaine Jean Féry Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune 'La Petite Heulée 2021
Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune " La Petite Heulée " shows a pale yellow robe that glistens with silver. The nose is citric, with ripe white-fleshed pear. The toastiness of the oak comes next. And then a note of struck-match. The mouth is incisive, crystalline, fresh, with notes of ripe citrus, ending with a long generous finish. This Hautes Cotes de Beaune is vinified in French oak barrels with a part in ceramic egg-shaped vats. The maturation continues in these different containers until 12 months. At the end of the maturation, a light lenticular filtration is carried out before bottling.
Domaine de Chateau de Vergisson Pouilly-Fuisse ‘En Charmont’ 2022
This is classic Pouilly-Fuisse from a top ‘village’ appellation vineyard. Pure gold, with lemon-drop fruit, a touch of tannin to give it structure, and lovely acidity. So round and balanced, you want to chew it.
Domaine Germain Pere et Fils Saint Romain Blanc 2022
With admirable yields (45hl/ha), this Saint Romain white is taken seriously right from the start. Add 30% new oak and 8-9 months of aging and batonnage, and you get a very classy Chardonnay with the unique and superbly subtle Saint Romain minerality, full, rich and dense, with elegant floral notes, good acidity in its youthful charm. We found this wine on a restaurant list in Santenay and were so impressed we went the next day and became friends with the producers.
Domaine Borgeot Bourgogne Blanc 2022
This is a real (secret) gem, the vines actually sit within the commune of Puligny-Montrachet and this is evident in the floral and citrus fruit bouquet, surprisingly dense and mineral in the attack. It does not possess all the intensity of a village or 1er cru but no doubt is a perfect example of how, when you understand the sometimes complex Burgundy wine laws, great quality can work in our favour, drinking perfectly now.
