RED WINES
Domaine D'Ardhuy Ladoix 2022
This Ladoix village red is a bright garnet with purplish highlights. The aromatic profile is vibrant and fresh, with red fruits: raspberry, cherry, and strawberry, accompanied by subtle vegetal notes and gentle clove spice. The palate is lively acidity and crunchy tannins, supporting the fruit and giving a texture that is tender and supple. The tannins are silky and well-integrated, providing structure without harshness. There's a slight touch of oak adding complexity without dominating the fruit.
Gilles Bouton Chassagne Montrachet 'Concis du Champs' 2020
Chassagne-Montrachet has fantastic terroir for both white and red Burgundy and this village AOC reflects this. Ripe red fruit profile with some pomegranate juice, pepper, smoke and ripe leaf. The firm acidity hold all the elements in balance.
Capitain-Gagnerot Ladoix 1er Cru 'Bois Roussot' 2022
We could tell you all about the soil make-up in the Ladoix 1er cru vineyard ‘Bois Roussot’, but suffice it to say that when the Capitains planted, they need a jack-hammer to break up the limestone! So you can imagine this ruby red, very mineral, red-fruit Ladoix, powerful but fine, with supple tannins and the trademark Capitain 10% new oak. A classic red Burgundy!
Domaine de Cromey Beaune 1er Cru Champimonts 2022
Premier Cru ‘Champimont’ is situated to the east of Beaune, in the heart of the noblest Beaune premier cru. Dark ruby in color, with fresh acidity in the attack and bright, spicy fruit, with an overlay of chocolate velour. The finish is long, full of fruit that is carried forward by the balance of the acidity. Density and tension mark the overall impression.
Domaine Jean Fery Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru 'Les Vergelesses' Rouge 2021
Yes, we admit, it can be complicated! There is this Jean Fery RED Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru 'Les Vergelesses', but the domain also makes both a red and a white Savigny-les Beaune 1er Cru both called 'Les Vergelesses' as well. To make things even more complicated, the Pernand 'Vergelesses' and the two Savigny 'Vergelesses' touch another Pernand premier cru called 'Ile des Vergelesses'! Sorry! We do our best to keep it all simple and clear. In addition to being the most complicated corner of the Savigny valley, it's also the most interesting. The vines are east-facing, low on the iron-rich slopes. This premier cru Vergelesses is charming and veloute, with freshness in the black fruit aromas. This wine is accessible fairly young. We start to enjoy them at about 3 years.
Domaine Mouton Givry 1er Cru 'Clos Jus' 2022
Domaine Mouton's aptly-named 'Clos Jus' ('jus' means 'juice') is the Mouton wine we go to first. Always ripe and juicy, ready to drink relatively early. Minerality is the key here, from a vineyard with different soil make-up to the rest of the appellation. Dark fruit, earth notes, delicate structure fleshed out to fullness. We appreciate the finesse in the winemaking, an unstinting perfectionism that has been communicated across a generation. The self-effacing Moutons would be the last to admit it, but for us their wines are nearly always perfect.
WHITE WINES
Domaine Borgeot Bourgogne Blanc 'Clos de la Carbonade' 2023
This remarkable regional wine originates from a small, special parcel in the village of Bouzeron, owned exclusively by the exceptional winemakers at Domaine Borgeot. Though the Borgeot brothers are best known for their outstanding village and premier cru wines from Burgundy’s revered “golden triangle” in the Côte de Beaune, this offering from the Côte Chalonnaise is not to be overlooked. Don’t let its humble classification fool you. Lively aromas of lemon, green apple, and citrus. On the palate, this medium-bodied white Burgundy reveals a gentle creaminess, perfectly offset by a long crisp citrus finish.
Jean-Claude Rateau Beaune 1er Cru Beaune 'Coucherias' 2022
A pale gold hue introduces this wine, layered with delicate aromas of white flowers, citrus, and almond. Lively and vibrant on the palate, it strikes a fine balance between bright fruit and crisp acidity, finishing with a long, mineral-driven elegance.
Domaine Jean Dauvissat et Fils Dauvissat Chablis Mont-Main Sourdelle 2023
The Domaine Jean Dauvissat has such impressive holdings in the village appellation Chablis, that Fabien Dauvissat has decided to present them by parcel, or by the individual vineyards, rather than blending them all together to make on big cuvee of Chablis. Here we have two vineyards (Mont-Main and Sourdelles), situated in the village of Beines in fromt of two of the best ‘left-bank premiers crus (Cotes de Lechet and Vau de Vey) Given the Left Bank exposure, it’s not surprising to find a steely minerality and a lean, laser-beam expression of the fruit and floral bouquet that is village Chablis. Exquisite precision. And an exciting development in Chablis for those who want to perfect their appreciation of the appellation.
Marchand-Tawse Bourgogne Blanc 2022
From parcels around Savigny-les Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses and the Hautes Cotes de Nuits, this is a cuvee designed to show Pascal Marchand’s vision of Chardonnay. Floral, with that Corton Mountain minerality, great acidity that makes it mouth-wateringly juicy and open. It’s ready. A lovely image of white from the middle reaches of the Cote d’Or.
Agnes Paquet Bourgogne Chardonnay 2023
Raised partly in steel with a small percentage of oak, this Chardonnay from strong limestone soils in the Hautes Cotes is crunchy, like biting in to the grape bunch, with fantastic freshness and good acidity on the finish. Mineral and pure.
Domaine Elodie Roy Hautes Cotes de Beaune Blanc 2023
This white Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune comes from vines located on a clay-limestone plateau near the Maranges appellation. The grapes were grown, vinified, and aged in used barrels. On the nose, there is great purity, with notes of pear, acacia honey, and lemon. The palate is full-bodied, rich and fresh. A balance she has achieved thanks to her work at Domaine Anne Gros. A superb wine that can rival the great Côte de Beaune appellations.
