Chateau Cary-Potet Bourgogne Rouge 2018
A limpid ruby red that catches the light, with raspberry, red currant and even blueberry notes, this is a youthful wine that is easy to drink, full of bursting fruit and discreet tannins.
Julien Cruchandeau Hautes Cotes de Nuits 'Les Cabottes' 2018
Tank raised. 12.5% alcohol. Vineyard in transition: half of it is 60 years old; the other half a new plantation 6 years old. The two parts are fermented separately then assembled in to one cuvee. 2018 gave him lovely phenolic maturity, so he did a slow cold maceration. The result is enormous fruit and a wine accessible now. Beautiful Pinot Noir!
Domaine Felix Bourgogne Cotes d'Auxerre Rouge 2018
Great Pinot fruit with strawberries and blackcurrant. Spicy and mineral. Great balance between fruit and acidity, alive. Makes you salivate.
Jean-Jacques Girard Bourgogne Rouge 2018
Jean-Jacques Girard's family has been making wine in the Savigny-les Beaune valley for 500 years, so it's not surprising to find that his regional appellation Bourgogne Rouge drinks like a little Savigny. Blackcurrant freshness, a touch of earth subsoil, a supple, easy structure and bull's-eye line on through the whole from the attack to the finish.
Domaine Jean Marechal Bourgogne 2018
Assembled from wine from two different parcels of appellation Bourgogne that are situated in the limits of Mercurey, you could call this a ‘little Mercurey’, the terroir and black fruits so resemble the village appellation. Severe pruning limits the yields (45hl/ha) reinforces the deep Pinot character of the fruit.
Marchand-Tawse Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2018
From the first whiff you know there is substance here. The nose is so expressive and full of black fruit. There’s great tannic structure, but well integrated. There’s charm. fresh, soft and spicy. And what you find in the nose lingers to a long delicate finish.
Domaine Marchand Freres Bourgogne Cote dÓr Rouge Cuvee Eline 2018
Burgundian winemakers who have been at it for generations often produce AOC Bourgogne that reminds you of the village wine where the domain is based. It makes sense, really: older domains are likely to have their vineyards circled close to home. This Domaine Marchand Freres Bourgogne fools you at first. We tend now to think of them as being based in Gevrey-Chambertin. But that is fairly recent. The domain’s roots are in Morey-Saint Denis. And when you taste this Bourgogne, that’s what you taste. A little Morey Saint Denis. Remarkable.
Agnes Paquet Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2018
Partly raised in steel with a with a small percentage of oak. Good structure, good acidity, clean tannins. But also, ripe blackberry fruit in the bouquet, and fresh fruit in the attack. A beautiful Pinot, a beautiful Bourgogne and a real pleasure.
Domaine Bernard Regnaudot Hautes Cotes de Beaune 2018
Dark red with fresh red fruit, firm and dense with good acidity, early notes of candied fruit. Young and exuberant. Drink it now, or hold it to see what the secondary aromas do to a wine of this depth.
Richard Rottiers Beaujolais Villages 2018
Classic Beaujolais village, fruity and spicy...from 60 year old vines. Great depth and body. This is what the Beaujolais renaissance is all about!
Domaine Elodie Roy Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2018
Opening in the glass with aromas of plums and raspberries, this Bourgogne Pinot Noir is medium to full-bodied, bright and lively, with a pretty core of fruit, lively acids and a mouthwatering finish.
Domaine Pierre Thibert Bourgogne Rouge 2017
A single vineyard Bourgogne is often a thing of wonder, a reflection of the precise terroir of the village it comes from. And this Bourgogne shouts Nuit St. Georges. A superbly positioned parcel. Blackcurrant and pepper, supple in its attack, complete through the mid-palate with a finish on fruit. Great structure, a wine that drinks above its appellation.
