$359 INTRODUCTION TO BURGUNDY WHITE CASE
Here are some of the White Burgundies that we think best introduce the Elden Selections palate. We’re not into oaky Chardonnay. We like our whites to be fresh, lively and complex, showing off the diversity of Burgundian minerality
You can taste the ‘terroir’ in Elden Selections White Burgundy, from Chablis, through the Cote de Beaune and onward to the south.

Domaine Borgeot Bourgogne Blanc 'Clos de la Carbonade' 2018
This single-vineyard Bourgogne 'Clos de la Carbonade' is wholly owned by the Borgeots. And the wine they make there is the greatest surprise on our list. It's a small parcel, located in the village of Bouzeron, the northernmost village of the Cote Chalonnaise. But don't be fooled by its modest pedigree: the 'Clos de la Carbonade' has something special about it. And year after year we see remarkable wines that far outshine appellations much grander than Bourgogne. The Borgeot's can't explain it...yet. But there is a geological study underway to see what makes this parcel tick.
Julien Cruchandeau Aligote 'Le Village' 2019
From 50 year old vines in the hills above Nuits St Georges, this Aligote is fresh and spicy with green apple acidity. Bright, crisp almost crunchy fruit and a deep, floral lingering finish carried out long by the limestone minerality.
Domaine Felix Saint Bris 'Cuvee Sainte Claire' 2017
Discreet Sauvignon notes throughout. Grassy and slightly herbal of thyme. Biscuity. The famous gooseberry, but also lime peel, pear and green apple. Smoky minerality, slightly saline. Along mineral finish on fruit and spice. Nice one.
Julien Cruchandeau Hautes Cotes de Nuits Blanc 2018
Very low yields for the appellation (30hl/ha). Raised in 50% steel tank and 50% wood (with 10% new oak in the mix). Orange flower and honey, rich but fresh and open. Long pleasant floral finish.
Marchand-Tawse Bourgogne Blanc 2018
From parcels around Savigny-les Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses and the Hautes Cotes de Nuits, this is a cuvee designed to show Pascal Marchand’s vision of Chardonnay. Floral, with that Corton Mountain minerality, great acidity that makes it mouth-wateringly juicy and open. It’s ready. A lovely image of white from the middle reaches of the Cote d’Or.
Agnes Paquet Bourgogne Chardonnay 2018
Raised partly in steel with a small percentage of oak, this Chardonnay from strong limestone soils in the Hautes Cotes is crunchy, like biting in to the grape bunch, with fantastic freshness and good acidity on the finish. Mineral and pure.
Jean Claude Rateau Hautes Cotes de Beaune Blanc 2018
Racy and bright, ripe aromas of lemon and almond, spiced pear and apple, and that hint of sweet river rock. The palate is balanced and has impressive length. The antithesis of fat, oaky Chardonnay, this is a real terroir wine and a great value.
Château de Vergisson Saint Veran 2019
This wine is pure pleasure. Raised in stainless steel tanks, it’s pure, open, fresh, with a noseful of rich, ripe fruit that snaps with mineralty, and a mouthful of freshness that’s like biting into the grape bunch. Charming every-day drinking Burgundy!
Elise Villiers Vezelay ‘Le Clos’ 2018
Lively and mineral, like a classy Chablis. There’s lemon peel and kaffir lime leaf, with chalk underneath and exotic spiciness high on the palate. Rich and tense with a solid core running from attack to a long complex finish.
Domaine Felix Saint Bris 2018
Fresh and lively, with notes of citrus and the famous gooseberry. Bold attack and vivacious mid-palate, fruity and herbaceous.
Julien Cruchandeau Bouzeron 'Massale' 2018
Deep, rich and dense with concentrated confit apple acidity, honey and cinnamon spicy. Great body, opulent and fresh. Classic minerality gives it length and purity. And the complexity...you'd think it's a chablis premier cru!
Domaine Borgeot Bourgogne Blanc 2017
Floral and fruity bouquet, surprisingly dense and mineral in the attack. This is a gem of a simple white Bourgogne, drinking perfectly now.
