Overview

Domain De Suremain has been worked according to established organic agriculture charters since 1996, and has been certified since 2000. This means that each harvest must be certified, and that the domain is regularly inspected to verify that their methods are in accordance with these charters. The domain holds that biodynamics is the essence of the soil, and by adopting these principles they have learned to observe, to better see, the plant, the soil and the individuality of each parcel of land. These principles hold that the influence of the sun, moon and constellations on the four earthly elements (earth, air, fire and water) should hold the whole in harmony. Biodynamic interventions are intended to aid this natural balance.

Biodynamic excellence from one of the lesser-known Burgundy Appellations, Eric Desuremain and his Classy Monthelie Reds will change the way you think about Burgundy.

Domaine De Suremain Monthelie 1er cru 'Le Clou des Chenes' 2018
Of the two De Suremain Monthelie 1er Cru, this ‘Clou des Chenes’ would be the one to lay down. You immediately sense the structure: the vanilla and black pepper; the tender tannins, integrated but present. And then you get the fruit, frank, foursquare and generous. You can go for the immediate pleasure, but better to wait a few years to get the full show.

Domaine De Suremain Rully 1er Cru 'Preaux' 2018
Very pretty Pinot Noir from the charming 2015 vintage. This premier cru Rully from the Cote Chalonnaise throws out a range of complexity from red currant acidity to black cherry suavity. A touch of rusticity in the tannins brings out a freshness and vivacity that makes this wine approachable now, and that will make it magnificent in 4-5 years’ time.

Domaine De Suremain Chateau de Monthelie 2017
This village appellation Monthelie is an ‘assemblage’ of four different parcels of vines, each of which is vinified and raised separately. Yields are very low here (22hl/ha), and the result is a wine of intense limpid ruby color, with a youthful fruit and spice attack that already shows complexity and elegance. 2010 is showing itself to be a vintage with great aging potential, and the tight tannins and juicy acidity that we see here proves the point.

Domaine Desuremain Chateau de Monthelie 1er Cru 'Sur la Velle' 2020
With four different strains of Pinot Noir planted in the same parcel, this south-facing low-yielding premier cru has-- year in, year out-- incredible diversity and breeding. Here we find that black cherry Pinot, with rich extraction, soft tannins and great balance. Great aging potential too.
