Domaine de Cromey's vineyards are a recent and exciting addition to Burgundy's burgeoning new age, embodying a commitment to organic farming, history, and terroir. The estate's single vineyard, "Le Clos," is an ambitious project that makes use of both the heritage of the land and of a modern vision of the direction that wine production in Burgundy is going.
The heart of Domaine de Cromey's wine production is its seven-acre single vineyard, known as 'Le Clos.' Planted in 2019 on land that had not seen vines for over 70 years, Le Clos benefits from soils untouched by chemical fertilizers or pesticides, making it ideal for organic and biodynamic viticulture. The vineyard sits at a higher elevation than many neighboring sites, which is increasingly valuable as Burgundy's climate warms. Le Clos is planted with both Pinot Noir (1/3) and Chardonnay (2/3), and the first harvests have already shown impressive purity and balance. Wines from this monopole are produced in partnership with Domaine AMI, known for their innovative, natural winemaking. This collaboration is based on a shared appreciation of both the unique terroir of the Couchois and the importance of organic farming methods.
Domaine de Cromey's vineyard lies within the Couchois appellation, a lesser-known but promising region in Burgundy. The Couchois is made up of six communes and is situated just beyond the southern tip of the Côte de Beaune. The Cromey vineyard's location on the upper slopes provides a cooler microclimate, which is particularly advantageous for maintaining freshness and balance in the wines as temperatures rise.
Domaine de Cromey is also developing a micro-negociant activity. Cromey is the home of burgundywine.com by Elden Selections who, with 35 years of on-the-ground experience in Burgundy, have important connections with dozens of small-production domains. This allows Cromey to source small quantities of top-quality wines from prestigious appellations and in exceptional vintages which they feel deserve the Domaine de Cromey label.

CROMEY TASTING NOTES
BOURGOGNE ‘LE CLOS’ 2022 MONOPOLE BLANC
This wine, the issue of three-year old vines (hence a very small yield), was fermented in neutral barrels. The intent was to see, as much as possible, what nature gives us from this new plantation; so there was no artifice, no filtering or fining before bottling. The resulting wine definitely benefits from leaving the bottles to stand upright, to allow sediment to settle. Part of the initial intention was to taste the lees, and, for that, the wine is cloudy by nature. The nose is expressive, with a combination of clear bright fruit and a dominant note of the ferment, as would be expected.

Pleasant, uncomplex berry fruit, with appley acidity and straightforward structure. Pleasant follow through to a satisfying finish. Shows great promise, as the vines age.
BOURGOGNE ‘LE CLOS’ 2023 MONOPOLE BLANC
With brilliant clarity and visible density, and a hint of greeny-gold, the first attack is background floral and citrus, a classic chardonnay fruit profile, pure and grassy, slightly saline, with charming reductive smokiness. It’s persistent and subtle at the same time. A fresh charming example of white Burgundy.
BOURGOGNE ‘LE CLOS’ 2023 MONOPOLE ROUGE
Deep ruby in color, with chewy tannins that suggest infusion rather than maceration, this is a good example of everything Pinot Noir has to offer in Burgundy in 2023: Good balance, velvety texture, ripe and rich. It’s young still, but it’s got ‘stuffing’, and the balance of acid, tannin and fruit that promises something special.
BEAUNE 1er Cru ‘CHAMPIMONT’ 2022
Premier Cru ‘Champimont’ is situated to the east of Beaune, in the heart of the noblest Beaune premier cru.
Dark ruby in color, with fresh acidity in the attack and bright, spicy fruit, with an overlay of chocolate velour. The finish is long, full of fruit that is carried forward by the balance of the acidity. Density and tension mark the overall impression.
