Domaine Pierre Thibert is now led by Pierre and his son Arthur, who began sharing winemaking duties in 2017 and officially became partners with Pierre in 2018. Arthur has brought a thoughtful balance of tradition and modernization, including a new cuverie and adaptations in vinification and élevage tailored each vintage, while maintaining a stripped-back, natural style that avoids fining and filtration. He practices organic farming methods without certification, elevating quality gradually while respecting the vineyard’s character.
Pierre, together with his wife Aline, founded the domaine in 1989 in Corgoloin—an often overlooked village situated between the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Pierre’s journey into wine began earlier; he was not born into a wine family but was inspired to pursue winemaking after enrolling at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune at age 15. After completing his BEPA diploma in 1984, he gained experience working for another winemaker before establishing his own domain.
In 1995, Pierre purchased a former winemaker’s house in Corgoloin, which remains the center of operations. Initially, he rented vines in Bourgogne and Passetoutgrain appellations and slowly expanded by acquiring or sharecropping parcels in Chorey-les-Beaune and later in Nuits-Saint-Georges, including some Premier Cru vineyards.
The domain manages about 10 acres of vines, focusing on single-vineyard expressions and showing a deep respect for nature and detail, both in the vineyard and cellar. Vinification respects the soil and plant with maturation in either tank or wood depending on the appellation, using only a small proportion of new oak on the more prestigious cuvées.
Domaine Pierre Thibert enjoys a loyal following, particularly in France, with much of the wine sold directly at the domain. www.burgundywine.com is pleased to bring these expressive, terroir-driven wines to the U.S. market for the first time.
Pierre and Arthur’s story is one of passion and measured growth, creating a respected and refined domain from modest beginnings in one of Burgundy’s lesser-known appellations.
