Virtual Tasting
December 6, 2020
Hosted by Dennis, Stephen, and Greg

Join us live for our next tasting from The Domaine de Cromey the home of Elden Selections and Joining us will be Elaine Luxton, a WSET certified wine expert and a professional photographer. Check out her instagram, @drinkinnaturephotography, for some of the most beautiful pictures of wine in nature.

We are based in the heart of Burgundy and would love to welcome you, from the comfort of your home. Allow us to be your guides as we explore a wine region that we know well and love. Some say that Burgundy is complex.  We prefer to say that it is multi-faceted. It’s everything you expect great wine to be. And that means a lot: noble grapes, complex soils, ideal climate and winemakers who know how to let these elements sing.

Three great wines to explore plus some other fascinating topics we will discuss:

  • What makes Burgundy wine different from other wines from around the world?
  • What makes Burgundy different, one appellation from another?
  • What is ‘quality’ in Burgundy wine?
  • What part does vintage play?
  • Why does Burgundy pair so well with food? Have a salty snack to see how this changes the wines.

At this tasting we’ll present three Elden Selection wines, the Virtual Tasting Trio includes one bottle of each:

Domaine Oudin, Chablis 2017
Two sisters from Chablis, Isabelle and Nathalie who featured in our 'women in wine' series. Chablis is an iconic wine region, making white only. Usually at village level and 1er cru no oak (or no detectable oak) Burgundy is about the producer expressing terroir and Chablis is one of the most obvious regions where this is easily expressed

Domaine Jean Féry, Côtes de Nuits Villages 'Clos de Magny' 2017
A single vineyard village wine. Clos de Magny is on the southernmost tip of the Côte de Nuits on the border of Ladoix in the Côte de Beaune. The terroir is a little softer than further north in the Nuits. The vintage of 2017 resulted in brighter acidity than the following three hotter years. This vintage is more 'typique' Burgundy.

Domaine Albert Boillot, Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2018
Miniscule production from this legendary winemaker. The winery of Domaine Albert Boillot  is in Volnay but the vines for this wine are 1 mile away, situated in the commune of Pommard in the Côte de Beaune. This wine is a great example of a fantastic regional wine with the character of the producer and village.
