Domaine Borgeot Bourgogne Blanc 'Clos de la Carbonade' 2022
This single-vineyard Bourgogne 'Clos de la Carbonade' is wholly owned by the Borgeots. And the wine they make there is the greatest surprise on our list. It's a small parcel, located in the village of Bouzeron, the northernmost village of the Cote Chalonnaise. But don't be fooled by its modest pedigree: the 'Clos de la Carbonade' has something special about it. And year after year we see remarkable wines that far outshine appellations much grander than Bourgogne. The Borgeot's can't explain it...yet. But there is a geological study underway to see what makes this parcel tick.

Jean-Jacques Girard Bourgogne Blanc 2021
A baby Savigny white. Its youthful vivacity tempered with a judicious use of oak yields a balance and a maturity beyond its years. That's the hand of the winemaker working with terroir that he was born to.

Domaine Gilles Bouton Bourgogne Blanc 2021
Beautiful example of how good regional classified wines can be. The caveat is that the producer must be top quality, small production. Complex citrus on the attack, with good concentration, saline minerality merges with some white pepper into the finish.

Julien Cruchandeau Aligote 'Le Village' 2022
From 50 year old vines in the hills above Nuits St Georges, this Aligote is fresh and spicy with green apple acidity. Bright, crisp almost crunchy fruit and a deep, floral lingering finish carried out long by the limestone minerality.

Jean Dauvissat Pere et Fils Chablis 2020
Chalky Chablis minerality make you immediately think that this village Chablis comes from vines on the left bank of the Serein. Many of the Dauvissat holdings are there, near Milly, the hamlet at the foot of the Cote de Lechet. Here, deep berry fruit and lemon drop (orange, really) acidity produce a big, concentrated wine which is wide open on the palate, with a long rich finish driven on by that minerality. Floral and fruity bouquet, surprisingly dense and mineral in the attack. This is a gem of a simple white Bourgogne, drinking perfectly now.

Marchand-Tawse Bourgogne Blanc 2019
From parcels around Savigny-les Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses and the Hautes Cotes de Nuits, this is a cuvee designed to show Pascal Marchand’s vision of Chardonnay. Floral, with that Corton Mountain minerality, great acidity that makes it mouth-wateringly juicy and open. It’s ready. A lovely image of white from the middle reaches of the Cote d’Or.

Agnes Paquet Bourgogne Chardonnay 2021
Raised partly in steel with a small percentage of oak, this Chardonnay from strong limestone soils in the Hautes Cotes is crunchy, like biting in to the grape bunch, with fantastic freshness and good acidity on the finish. Mineral and pure.

Domaine Michel Rebourgeon Bourgogne Blanc 2021
From a tiny plot, less than half an acre. For those of you who know the area, it’s near the roundabout between Pommard and Beaune. Freshness, green apple and floral. Round, good depth and density.

Domaine de Chateau de Vergisson Macon Solutre Pouilly 2022
This wine is pure pleasure. Raised in stainless steel tanks, it’s pure, open, fresh, with a noseful of rich, ripe fruit that snaps with minerality, and a mouthful of freshness that’s like biting into the grape bunch. Charming every-day drinking Burgundy!
