Hospices de Nuits, Nuits St Georges 1er Cru ‘Rues de Chaux’ 2019 CASE
As you know, every year since 2013 Elden has bought one or more barrels at the annual charity wine auction at the Hospices de Beaune.
But you may not know that we started buying at the 'sister' Charity Auction in Nuits St Georges in the 2019 vintage.
And what a vintage that has proven to be in the Cotes de Nuits.
In March 2020, we attended the auction sale and bought a barrel of Hospices de Nuits Nuits St Georges 1er Cru 'Rue de Chaux' 2019.
Since then it has been in the cellars of Marchand-Tawse in Nuit St Georges.
Pascal Marchand raised the wine for us.
And a couple of months ago it was bottled and labeled for shipment to Elden Selections' US Cellars. Well, that ship is just about to arrive.
And we wanted to give you the first dibs on this rare wine from a stupendous vintage for red Burgundy.
My notes from just before bottling say:
The robe is a deep, brilliant cherry red. The nose offers a palette rich in black fruits and stone fruits, mixed with touches of undergrowth and spices. A well-defined structure, solid and smooth, with an elegance tempered by very fine tannins.
