Capitain-Gagnerot Echezeaux Grand Cru 2019
Grand Cru Echezeaux is mythical and rare, and in the right hands can reach near perfection. Intense and alive with black cherry and cocao, it is fine and velvety and finishes on dark bitter chocolate. The vineyard is relatively new to the Maison Capitain, but their long experience with a classy holding in the Clos Vougeot puts them in the neighborhood. It's a jewel in the Capitain crown. Never a hesitation!

Marchand Frères Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2019
Deep ruby red, with complex nose of cherry and fresh almond. Plump and ample wine with silky tannins and a finish on licorice and blackcurrant. New oak, so be prepared to let this one sit.  But it will be worth it!

Domaine Jean Fery Corton Grand Cru 2018
You may notice that we present several Corton Grand Cru in our selections. And that is because there are so many terroirs and styles across the Corton slopes. What's more, we even have two Cortons made by the same winemaker! Pascal Marchand produced this one for the Domaine Fery (and we also feature his Marchand-Tawse Corton). We're hoping you see the chance for a parallel tasting! Our take on this Fery Corton: full and intense, with fruits calling up cherries in eau-de-vie and torrefaction. Supple attack that gives way to powerful mid-palate, dense and solid, and finishing on juicy cherries and chocolate. It's a riot of flavor.

Capitain-Gagnerot Clos de Vougeot 'Quartier de Marei Haut' 2019
With over 120 acres planted and around 50 producers, the Clos Vougeot is the largest single grand cru (if not largest vineyard!) in Burgundy.  Because of its deep roots in Burgundian tradition, the walled-in Clos has always been considered an integral whole.  But of course it is not.  Only certain sections actually merit Grand Cru status. So let the buyer beware! So we are pleased to tell you that the small parcel that Maison Capitain owns is in the heart of the very best zone, touching on Grands Echezeaux (on the other side of the wall!).  Capitain Clos Vougeot is true Clos Vougeot.

Pierre Naigeon Mazy-Chambertin 2019
Pierre has one tiny parcel of this majestic Grand Cru, producing one barrel, fewer than 300 bottles.  And we have 36 of them.  And it is remarkable. Deep, almost black; limpid and bright. Fresh black cherry, with toasty hints.  Supple and round, powerful, but full of charm, with no excess.  Great balance.  And the finish goes back to fruit... for a long time. 2019 power and elegance. This is a wine we have not put on the website because of its rarity...288 bottles for the entire world! And Elden is the only American importer.

Marchand Freres Griottes Chambertin 2018
With a tiny holding of a quarter of an acre, Denis Marchand produces 750 bottles a year of  this Grand Cru Griotte-Chambertin.  Small production, but enormous wine and a great bottle. Rich and generous, with floral nuances on top of  ever-present minerality. Blackberry fruit, judiously oaked.  Elegant and delicate, with impressive volume, this is wine meant to last.  Power perfectly controlled.
