What you need to know here is that William is a prodigy. He has taken the reins at his parent's Domaine Michel Rebourgeon in Pommard and he has Burgundy in a tizzy. ‘Genius' is a not a word that I use lightly.

If you have heard of him already, it's probably because of his Pommard vineyard holdings. The Domaine Rebourgeon owns some of the most prestigious premier crus in the appellation.

But today, let's talk about a more subtle, delicate side to the Rebourgeon production. They have a gem of a parcel of vines in the Volnay 1er Cru 'Carelle Sous la Chapelle'.

Put the two together William Whitehead and ethereal Volnay...and by now I should have your attention.

This is probably the most sylph-like, ethereal of all the Volnays. Supple laciness that envelops the palate, intense but weightless. Yet at the same time it is earth and dark chocolate, with smoky minerality, and a high-pitched acidity that carries the Volnay violets into a crescendo finish.
