Saint Bris 2019
Saint Bris 'Cuvée Sainte Claire' 2020
The story of the appellation Saint Bris is like no other in Burgundy
In addition to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the village Saint-Bris in the Auxerrois has traditionally grown Sauvignon Blanc as part of its production. Its proximity to Sancerre, 60 miles to the southwest, might be at the origin of the tradition, but Sauvignon de Saint-Bris has always been a feature in the Auxerrois wine production.
So much so that the local producers decided to take Sauvignon Blanc as their appellation grape. And in 2003, the appellation Saint-Bris was born. So now their label no longer says Sauvignon de Saint-Bris, but simply Saint-Bris. And the grape is Sauvignon.
If you have never tasted Saint-Bris, the Domaine Felix is a must-try producer.
Domaine Felix in fact makes 2 different Saint Bris:
The village Saint Bris closely resembles Sancerre because (like Sancerre) it does not undergo the second malo-lactic fermentation. It's therefore more fruit-forward.
The Saint Bris 'Cuvée Sainte Claire', which does undergo malo, is more elegant and structured, refined.
If you like Sauvignon Blanc, if you like Sancerre you will really appreciate the finesse of the Domaine Felix.

Domaine Felix Saint Bris 2019
Fresh and lively, with notes of citrus and the famous gooseberry. Bold attack and vivacious mid-palate, fruity and herbaceous.
Domaine Felix Saint Bris 'Cuvee Sainte Claire' 2020
Discreet Sauvignon notes throughout. Grassy and slightly herbal of thyme. Biscuity. The famous gooseberry, but also lime peel, pear and green apple. Smoky minerality, slightly saline. Along mineral finish on fruit and spice. Nice one.
