WHITE WINES
Domaine Germain Pere et Fils Saint Romain Blanc 2021

With admirable yields (45hl/ha). This Saint Romain white is taken seriously right from the start. Add 30% new oak and 8-9 months of aging and batonnage, and you get a very classy Chardonnay with the unique and superbly subtle Saint Romain minerality, full, rich and dense, with elegant floral notes, good acidity in its youthful charm. We found this wine on a restaurant list in Santenay and were so impressed we went the next day to meet the producers. An excellent bottle.

Jean-Jacques Girard Savigny les Beaune White 2019
Jean-Jacques Girard knows Savigny les Beaune. And while 85% of Savigny is red, there is a lovely strain of minerality that comes out of this valley. and with the village appellation Savigny les Beaune blanc, Jean Jaques shows us what is possible. The nose is like an apple orchard, fresh fruit and apple pie spices in the air. Rich, supple, pure, and then a bite of that pie! This one is ripe, fresh and shows a good deal of complexity.

Julien Cruchandeau Bouzeron 'Massale' 2019
Deep, rich and dense with concentrated confit apple acidity, honey and cinnamon spicy. Great body, opulent and fresh. Classic minerality gives it length and purity. And the complexity...you'd think it's a chablis premier cru!

RED WINES
Regnaugot Maranges 1er Cru 'Clos des Loyeres' 2021

This much-awarded wine, from an appellation you have probably never heard of, is the standard-bearer for the Maranges. When we first arrived in Burgundy, neighboring Santenay was considered rustic and undrinkable. All that has changed. And now it’s the turn of Maranges to come into the fold. Producers like the Regnaudots have been making it happen for a decade now. This premier cru ‘Clos des Loyeres’ is black cherry in color and black cherry in flavor, which is considered typical of the vineyard. It’s a gutsy wine, full-bodied, round and balanced. There’s a touch of cocoa on that fruit that is persistent right through to the finish. A classy example of what Maranges can be. You have to try this.

Michel Arcelain Bourgogne 2018
This Bourgogne will stop you in your tracks. Like so many regional appellation wines from small, proud production domains, the grapes for this wine come from a vineyard in the village where the producer lives and work.  In this case…it’s Pommard. This is no big-volume blend Bourgogne like you get from the negociant houses. No, you’ll swear that this is a little Pommard. And that’s how it should be!

Marchand-Tawse Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2020
From the first whiff you know there is substance here. The nose is so expressive and full of black fruit. There’s great tannic structure, but well integrated. There’s charm. fresh, soft and spicy. And what you find in the nose lingers to a long delicate finish.
