BURGUNDY TERROIR: ASPECT
Burgundy is a rather easy place in which to taste aspect in wines, considering that rivers flow through much of the region, leaving vineyards with distinctive "left-bank" and "right-bank" plots.
And one of the most exciting examples of "left-bank" vs. "right-bank" comes from the Chablis region. A refreshing case and a crowd favorite for summertime, featuring a sound illustration of all there is to appreciate about aspect in terroir.

Fourchaume is the best known of the Chablis premier crus, perhaps because it is an extension of the Grand Cru vineyards, and benefits from a similar Right Bank exposition. Round, mature fruit, crystalline purity, sweet, lemony acidity classic cool river rock minerality. A classic Chablis premier cru.
Jean Dauvissat Pere et Fils Chablis 1er Cru ‘Cote de Lechet’ 2018
A classic Cote de Lechet, about as mineral as Chablis can be. This premier cru Cote de Lechet is a model of Left Bank precision, razor sharp, with juicy, mouth-watering acidity. A characteristic floral attack and gun-flint smokiness fill the mid-palate, and the finish is bright berry fruit and long, long minerality.
