Aligote has finally come of age and it's taken a whole generation of dedicated wine makers to make it happen. They call themselves the 'Aligoteurs' and they have changed the way Burgundians talk about Aligote...and how they drink it.

Used to be that vigneron would plant the Aligote grape only in their worst vineyard. Given no respect; allowed to be sub-par; apt only for a cassis-sweetened 'kir'.

But these new, young, hungry winemakers today have given Aligote pride of place in vineyards with good soil, good exposition and drainage. And the results are stupefying!

And guess who one of the stars of this movement is? Julien Cruchandeau, who started his career working with Aubert de Villane in the movement to make Bouzeron a village appellation based on the grape Aligote.

In fact, his Bouzeron 'Massale' pays homage to Aubert de Villane who gave Julien the original Aligote rootstock to plant his own vineyard in Bouzeron.
